Fermentation

Our expertise in fermentation has a long history. For many years, Evonik’s feed additives business has produced amino acids such as L-Lysine, L-Threonine and
L-Tryptophan through fermentation processes. In addition, we developed our own strains for amino acids such as
L-Proline, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine. The production facilities for fermentation of these amino acids are located at the Evonik Fermas site in Slovakia.

Chemical and enzymatic synthesis

The combination of expertise and resources in chemistry and enzymatic synthesis enables Evonik to manufacture a complementary part of the amino acid portfolio. For example, L-Methionine, L-Alanine, and L-Aspartic acid are produced using enzymatic processes. This technology also gives us the competitive edge in such specific product areas as D-amino acids as well as non-naturally substituted amino acids like L-tert-Leucine. All these compounds are meeting your highest standards in purity, quality and reliability.

Chromatography—on industrial scale

Evonik‘s know-how in chromatography on industrial scale is unique and we use this technology to purify polar compounds like amino acids and peptides. Furthermore, our ion exchange chromatography is used for the extraction and separation of valuable ingredients from natural sources, as well as for the purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients under cGMP regulations.
