Generally, the applications of amino acids in the pharmaceutical industry can be divided into two groups:

1. Those used as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and
2. Those used as synthetic chemical precursors or building blocks.

We have established numerous registrations in the form of Certificates of Suitability (CEP) or Drug Master Files (DMF) for the use of Evonik‘s amino acids as APIs, and we have the documentation available to our customers to support the registration dossiers of their drugs. We also manufacture nearly all of our products according to cGMP guidelines to satisfy this major requirement for the pharmaceutical sector.

Furthermore, amino acids are valuable compounds as precursors for chiral substances particularly required by the pharmaceutical industry. One of the strengths Evonik offers in this area is the broad know-how in manufacturing and purifying derivatives of the readily available L-amino acids. Among these are racemic DL- and enantiopure D-amino acids, as well as rare specialties like L-tert-Leucine, Isoserine, L-Homoserine, L-Norvaline and the like.
